چکیده

Multiple-funnel traps baited with exo-brevicomin and a mixture of cisand transverbenol were used to test the relative attractiveness #If myrcene and (-)-a-pinene to the mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopkins, in a s tand of western white pine, Pinus mont icola Doug]. Traps baited with myrcene caught significantly more D. ponderosae than traps baited with (-)-a-pinene, irrespective of the presence of exobrevicomin. exo-Brevicomin was attractive to Thanasimus undatulus (Say) (Coleoptera: Cleridae) whereas Trypodendron lineatum (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) was attracted to (-)-a-pinene. Our results support the use of myrcene in commercial trap lures and tree baits for D. ponderos,ze in stands of western white pine in British Columbia.

cis-Verbenol: An aggregation pheromone for the mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonlcs ponderosae Hopkins (Coleoptera: Scolytidae)

c-is-Verbenol increased catches of male mountain pine beetles, Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopkins, to multiple-funnel traps baited with myrcene and em-brevicomin. cis-Verbenol had no effect on the response of males to traps baited with myrcene, exo-brevicomin and tl-ans-verbenol. In contrast, cis-verbenoi inct-eased catches of female D. ponderosae to semiochemical-baited traps irrespective of the ...

Dose-dependent and Species-specific Responses of Pine Bark Beetles (coleoptera: Scolytidae) to Monoterpenes in Association with Pheromones

The Canadian Entomologist 132: 183 195 (2000) Monoterpenes affected the attraction of three sympatric species of bark beetles (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) to pheromone-baited multiple-funnel traps in stands of lodgepole pine. Catches of Ips pini (Say) in traps baited with its pheromone, ipsdienol, were directly related to the release rates of 3-carene, pphellandrene, and ppinene. Catches of Dendroc...

Short-range horizontal disruption by verbenone in attraction of mountain pine beetle (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) to pheromone-baited funnel traps in stands of lodgepole pine

Verbenone interrupted the attraction of mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopkins, to baited multiple-funnel traps at a distance of <4 m. Catches of beetles in traps placed 24 m from traps with verbenone were not significantly lower than catches in control traps. These results are consistent with the short-range phenomenon of “switching” exhibited by mountain pine beetle in the form...

Comparison of lodgepole and jack pine resin chemistry: implications for range expansion by the mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

The mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae, is a significant pest of lodgepole pine in British Columbia (BC), where it has recently reached an unprecedented outbreak level. Although it is native to western North America, the beetle can now be viewed as a native invasive because for the first time in recorded history it has begun to reproduce in native jack pine stands within the North Am...
